The World Health Organisation named philanthropist and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg as WHO global ambassador for non-communicable diseases.
Bloomberg has worked with WHO on tobacco control and injury prevention for the past decade. His role as ambassador will require contacting national and local political leaders around the world to highlight the issues behind non-communicable diseases, said the Geneva-based global health group.
Bloomberg will serve on an honorary basis for an initial period of two years, WHO said.
