FTA prepares for ban

Ahead of the imminent ban on imports of waterpipe tobacco without “Digital Tax Stamps”, the FTA has boosted its preperations, reports the Khaleej Times.

The ban, which is due to come into effect on 1 March, marks the second phase of the “Marking Tobacco and Tobacco Products Scheme” which bans the import of any type of waterpipe tobacco and electrically heated cigarette plugs that do not carry a “Digital Tax Stamp”, reports the Khaleej Times.
The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has now held a fourth workshop for producers, importers and distributors of tobacco products in order to inform them about the scheme and keep them up to date on the latest developments.
FTA Director General Khalid Ali Al Bustani, who opened the workshop, maintained that the scheme is an innovative solution in the battle against tax evasion and at the same time helps to protect consumers from subpar products, according to the Khaleej Times.
