Gallaher launches another slim brand

As of 21 November 2005, Gallaher Liggett Ducat is launching a new superslims brand on the Russian market.

The brand is called Glamour, similarly with the popular glossy magazine, just like Vogue produced by BAT. Glamour is made by Gallaher’s facilities in Poland and is already sold in the markets of Ukraine and Kazakhstan, where the results of the first month have proven fairly optimistic, LD’s marketing director for Russia and CIS, Alina Safina, said in an interview. According to the company, the new cigarettes are meant for young smoking ladies of moderate means who none the less seek after a glamorous image. The new brand’s select audience largely coincides with that of the printed namesake. Glamour is to be sold in two versions, lights and superlights, and is going to cost around Euro 0.5 per pack in retail, twice cheaper than Vogue. The Russian superslims market is rapidly growing, although its current market share is rather modest, a mere 1.6 per cent. However, Ms Safina forecasts a growth to 2.6 per cent, or US$ 340 million per year, by the end of nest year. The price segment is also one of the fastest growing and accounts for as much as 22 per cent of the market, she notes.
