The government asked for a full-court review of the ruling by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington that threw out graphic warning labels on cigarette packs proposed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Associated Press reported.
Justice Department lawyers asked for the review in a filing that rejected the panel finding that the FDA's pictorial warnings violated free-speech rights of tobacco companies. The government also contended the Washington ruling conflicts with ruling on the same issue by a federal appeals court in Cincinnati, the AP reported. (pi)
