There are currently no plans to increase tobacco tax in Germany, reports the Bundestag.
This is stated by the Federal Government in response to a request of the parliamentary group Die Linke. It further stated that in its sustainability strategy, the Federal Government is committed to a further significant reduction in the smoking rate by 2030. In 2015, the health goal "Reduce tobacco consumption" was defined to encourage adolescents and young adults not to smoke, to increase smoking cessation in all age groups and to ensure comprehensive protection against passive smoking.
