The Indian government has deferred the December deadline to have pictorial warnings on cigarette and bidi packets by another six months.
The decision to further defer the deadline to 31 May 2009 was taken on Monday at a meeting of the group of ministers chaired by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee. Tobacco manufacturers were supposed to place pictorial warnings on packets of cigarettes and bidis starting in December. (pi)
