The government plans to legalise the sale of nicotine-containing e-cigarettes and e-liquids in 2018 in order to help reduce smoking rates, the New Zealand Herald said.
Associate Health Minister Nicky Wagner did not announce a specific date, according to the Herald. "This is an opportunity to see if restricted access to e-cigarettes and e-liquid can help lower our smoking rates, reduce harm and save lives," Wagner reportedly said. She added the government was taking a "cautious approach" by regulating e-cigarettes and their use along the same lines as cigarettes. New Zealand aims to be smokefree by the year 2025.
