The Ministry of Health and Welfare has announced that cigarette manufacturers in South Korea will be required to strengthen health warnings on cigarette packs starting in December, reports The Korea Herald.
The ministry plans to distribute the updated manual for health warning labelling on cigarette packages soon, as a follow-up to the government’s revision of the tobacco industry regulation passed in June. The new regulation is scheduled to take effect 23 Dec.
The manual requires companies to place more graphic warnings on cigarette products. For example, a warning about second-hand smoke includes a rendered image of a newborn sucking on a baby bottle filled with cigarette butts. For e-cigarettes, more than 50 per cent of the packaging must consist of health warnings, authorities said.
