The Cabinet has proposed a one-year transition period before mandatory graphic warnings on tobacco packaging and a ban on characterising flavours take effect, the Sofia Globe reported.
The grace period is part of a final bill of amendments to the country’s tobacco law approved by the Cabinet. It would allow sale of tobacco products made under the current EU regulatory framework until May, 2017, the newspaper said on its website.
The revised EU Tobacco Products Directive to take effect on 20 May, 2016, sets a minimum size of 65 per cent for mandatory graphic warnings on the main packaging surfaces, and bans the use of characterising flavours in cigarette and hand-rolled tobaccos.
