The deadline for the potential graphic warning labels on cigarette packs has been pushed back by three months to 9 April 2023, reports the Winston-Salem Journal.
The FDA-required graphic warning labels have already been delayed several times after they were originally set to launch on 18 June 2021. Now a US District judge in Texas has approved the latest delay in the launch date for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Philip Morris USA, ITG Brands LLC and Liggett Group LLC., reports the Winston-Salem Journal. This means the tobacco manufacturers will have to potentially feature graphic warning labels on their cigarettes packs by 9 April 2023.
“Pursuant to the court order, any obligation to comply with a deadline tied to the effective date is similarly postponed,” said the FDA. It does however strongly suggest companies submit cigarette plans as soon as possible and no later than 10 June.
