Greek police found nearly 1.5 million packets of contraband cigarettes on a North Korean-registered ship off southern Greece and arrested seven members of its crew, authorities said on Monday.
The inspectors found the cigarettes on Sunday. According to the merchant navy ministry, they are worth around Euro 3.5 million in lost taxes. The seizure brings the total number of contraband cigarettes found by the Greek authorities at sea this year to more than four million packets – three million of them aboard North Korean-registered vessels.
