Growers upset at low tobacco prices plan to travel to the capital Sofia this week to lay their complaints before the national legislature, Novinite.com reported.
Tsvetan Filev, chairman of the National Association of Tobacco Growers, threatened to block parliament to press demands for higher state subsidies and creation of a government arbitration panel to mediate between growers and tobacco buyers. Multinational tobacco companies are not paying growers full price, citing poor quality, Filev reportedly said. Approximately 300 growers from Haskovo in southern Bulgaria are planning to travel to Sofia, according to Novinite, the English language service of Sofia News Agency.
