The Ministry of Health has planned a media campaign ahead of the 1 Sept introduction of pictorial health and addiction warnings covering 75 per cent of cigarette pack surface areas, Eleven Myanmar reported.
Manufacturers will have a six-month grace period from 1 Sept to introduce the warnings, Eleven said on its website. Initially announced by the government in February, the larger warnings are intended to reduce the country’s 26.1 smoking rate. Nearly 44 per cent of adult males smoke, as opposed to 8.4 per cent for women.
