As of January 1, 1997 cigarette brands made domestically are required to have health warnings and a „Made in Vietnam“ label

Although the „Smoking damages your health“ statement must be shown in Vietnamese, the „Made in Vietnam“ label may appear in English or Vietnamese. The requirements were planned to heighten awareness of the effects of smoking on health and to better identify packages of smuggled cigarettes, according to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Enviroment.
