Organisers of Inter-tabac Asia scheduled for Bali in late February rebutted a statement 27 Jan by the Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance (SEATCA) that the trade show was blocked by the provincial government.
"We have nothing before us saying it has been banned or cancelled", said Andreas Weber, a spokesman for organisers Westfalenhallen Dortmund GmbH.
SEATCA in its statement congratulated Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika, saying he "rejected the holding" of the 27-28 Feb trade fair. "The entire Indonesian nation should respect Governor Pastika's decision and ensure that the event is not shifted to another venue in Indonesia", SEATCA said.
Inter-tabac Asia is a show for smoke-shop wares held jointly with ProTobEx, a trade fair for manufacturers and suppliers. Weber said there has been no communication from the provincial government of Bali, adding the exhibition has obtained the required approvals. "Our work is going forward as normal", he said.
TJI attempts to contact the Bali governor’s office were unavailing.
