PMI has recently launched its IQOS heat-not-burn tobacco device in Atlanta, according to CNBC, with plans to roll out across further US states after monitoring the devices initial success.
The device itself will be available from select stores and, although consumers will be able to order it online, they will still have to collect it from stores in person. The heatsticks needed to use the device will be available from around 500 stores and kiosks around Atlanta. Altria has opened an IQOS shop in the Lenox Square Mall and, before entering, consumers will have to provide id to prove they are over 21 and will be asked if they already smoke. If they answer no, or are unable to provide id, they will be turned away. This is part of Altria’s initiative to prevent those under 21 or those not already smoking conventional cigarettes from taking up smoking the IQOS.
The Atlanta store will be offering bundles, which contain the device and 200 heatsticks, for USD 80. The device on its own will be sold for USD 100. According to CNBC, IQOS was first launched in Japan, Nagoya and Milan in 2014 and has since been made available across 49 different markets, with Atlanta being the most recent.
