The Department of Transportation (DOT) has banned the use of e-cigarettes and related vaping devices on commercial airliners, codifying what has been industry practice.
The ban includes charter flights where a flight attendant is a required crew member, and to non-US carriers. DOT’s final rule extends the ban on smoking to vaping products, for both passengers and crew.
Electronic cigarettes powered by lithium batteries and battery spares must be transported in carry-on baggage under regulations issued by the International Air Transport Association. IATA recommends a complete ban on vaping on board.
