Under the ‘no-smoking zones’ draft bylaw handed to the city administration on 11 March, shops that sell cigarettes would only be permitted to display a sign reading “Cigarettes are available here”. Open display of cigarettes on sale would be banned and the bylaw would also see no-smoking zones introduced within the city, the newspaper reported.
The draft bylaw is the latest curbing of tobacco advertising by the city’s administration. By decrees signed in 2015, introducing bans on indoor and outdoor cigarette advertising, the city plans to be free of indoor and outdoor advertising for cigarettes by the end of 2016, the newspaper said.
