The Central Japan Railway Company has announced that it will replace smoking carriages with business-friendly carriages on its bullet trains, reports TechRadar.
To make room for the new carriages, the company will phase out its old smoker-friendly carriages, which no longer serve a purpose after a nationwide ban on smoking on trains came into effect last year.
In some cases, the existing smoking cabins will also be replaced with cabins where workers can work undisturbed without being overheard by other passengers.
Initially, the work-friendly carriages will only be available on two routes (between Tokyo and Nagoya and between Tokyo and Osaka) and only on a specific type of bullet train, the N700S, the report said.
