Japan Tobacco will add a low-tar “super strong menthol” product to its Seven Stars line to replace Salem Alaska Menthol beginning in late October, the company announced today.

Seven Stars Alaska Menthol with 5 mg tar and 0.4 mg nicotine will contain peppermint, corn mint and spearmint. JT said it will offer smokers aroma and taste similar to the Salem product it will replace. It is the first 5 mg cigarette in the Seven Stars line. The menthol will be present in cut tobacco, filter and inner aluminium, the company said.
“The new product has a simple and stylish design. It retains the brand's original value while conveying through its design a modern, youthful, and sophisticated image,” JT said. Salem Alaska Menthol will be discontinued when its stock is sold out.
Launch of Alaska Menthol follows closely the August introduction of a super-slim product named Cutting Menthol. Addition of the two newcomers increases the Seven Stars product line to nine. Seven Stars is among the biggest brands in Japan, where it was first introduced in 1969.  (ci)
