JT to launch Ploom upgrade with Mevius capsules

Japan Tobacco (JT) will launch an upgraded version of its Ploom heat-not-burn device for use with capsules packed with three variants of its Mevius premium cigarette tobaccos, the company said.

Ploom Tech is activated “merely by inhaling” and delivers a smoother tobacco taste than Ploom, JT said. The capsule variants are packed with granulated tobacco in one regular, and two menthol variants of Mevius, the cigarette that JT intends to make the world’s best selling premium brand. Ploom was acquired last year from California-based Pax Labs.
Ploom Tech will be available from early March at roughly 900 stores in Fukuoka City and in the rest of Japan from a website operated by JT Creative Service. The suggested retail price for a starter kit is JPY 4,000 (EUR 31), including a carrying case valued at JPY 1,100. Launches in other countries are planned, JT said.
