JT to restructure tobacco business, names new JTI chief

Japan Tobacco (JT) announced a change of leadership at its international unit and said it would to restructure its tobacco business next year to include a top-level advisory panel on global strategy.

Eddy Pirard, currently vice president for business development at Japan Tobacco International, will replace JTI Chief Executive Officer Thomas McCoy as of 1 April, 2017. McCoy led JTI for three years and said he was retiring after 17 years at JTI and 15 years as RJ Reynolds.
Beginning in January, the committee on global tobacco strategy will advise Mutsuo Iwai, JT’s tobacco business president, on mid- to long-term growth strategies for the overall business. Iwai would chair the new panel, JT said.
A new position – president of the Japanese tobacco business – will be filled next year and also serve on the new panel along with the JT senior vice president for tobacco business planning, JT said. JTI also will have three panel members; the CEO, deputy CEO and executive vice president for business development
