Juul faces lawsuit over contaminated products

A former executive claims Juul Labs shipped 1 million contaminated pods to unknowing retailers and customers, Buzzfeed News reported.

After a tough week with reports over a management shake-up, it has now emerged that Juul Labs is being sued by a former executive. According to Buzzfeed News, the lawsuit alleges that Juul Labs allowed pods containing contaminated e-liquid to go to market.
The plaintiff Siddharth Breja worked as senior vice president of global finance for Juul Labs from May 2018 to March 2019. He claims that in an executive meeting on 12 March 2019 he learnt that around 1 million pods were manufactured using contaminated mint e-liquid and had been sold to retailers and customers.
According to Breja, the company refused to issue a recall or notify customers about the contamination. Furthermore, he was told to charge the e-liquid supplier, Alternative Ingredients, USD 7 million (EUR 6.3 million) for supplying Juul Labs with the tainted e-liquid.
Breja, who was terminated just over a week after he expressed concern about the issue, is now seeking compensatory damages in a lawsuit, which also requires Juul Labs to recall the contaminated products and create a hotline for employee whistleblowers.
