The Leaf Tobacco Deliberative Council has released its report to the consultation for domestic tobacco cultivation area and purchase prices for 2021, according to a JT press release.
The report is a direct response to a proposal submitted by Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT). The Council, which is chaired by Yoshitsugu Minagawa, was largely in agreement with the proposal and set the domestic tobacco cultivation area for 2021 at 5,970 hectares, a decrease of 5.7 per cent compared to the previous year. The purchase price for leaf tobacco will be increased by 0.62 per cent to JPY 1,924.15
per kilogram for all leaf types. JT stated in the press release, that it would abide by the Council’s report and will process with the sales and purchase agreements for leaf tobacco in 2021.
The Leaf Tobacco Deliberative Council consists of 11 members appointed by JT and the Minister of Finance and confers on important matters concerning the cultivation and purchase of domestically grown leaf tobacco in response to inquiries by the JT representative.
