Cannabis legalisation is to come to Germany next year. At least that is what Finance Minister Christian Lindner wants. However, statements made by the Federal Drug Commissioner in July weaken this forecast, reports dpa.
Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner has held out the prospect of cannabis legalisation for next year. Speaking at a Free Democratic Party event during the state election campaign in Lower Saxony, Lindner told demonstrators in Oldenburg who were holding up signs with cannabis leaves and texts such as “A cone with Christian Lindner” that they could look forward to legalisation coming next year.
However, federal drug commissioner Burkhard Blienert had said as recently as July that it was unlikely the cannabis legalisation law would come into force before 2024. He said the coalition would present a draft for it at the end of this year or the beginning of next year. However, many questions still need to be clarified, the federal drug commissioner stressed in July.
