The lower house of the National Assembly approved introduction of plain packaging for cigarettes in May, 2016, as part of an omnibus health reform bill, RFI said.

Smoking in vehicles with a passenger below age 18 would be prohibited and tobacco companies required to disclose information on marketing and advertising, said the radio station on its English language website. Vaping in workplaces would be prohibited, RFI said.
Modifications to the legislation, which also would change fee payment systems for doctors and labels on food products, are possible in the upper house.
