Philip Morris USA and RJ Reynolds Tobacco, faced with falling sales, have raised cigarette wholesale prices by two to three per cent, Convenience Store News (CSN) reported.
PM USA raised cigarette list prices for all its brands, including best-selling Marlboro, by 10 cents (EUR 0.08) CSN said, citing Wells Fargo Securities tobacco analyst Bonnie Herzog as its source. RJ Reynolds Tobacco and Santa Fe Natural, a unit of British American Tobacco, hiked list prices on its key brands by the same amount, according to CSN.
Smokeless tobacco subsidiaries of PM USA parent company Altria and BAT’s Reynolds American increased prices on its moist snuff and snus products by 7 to 12 cents a can, CSN said. Smaller companies can be expected to follow the lead of the top two US tobacco companies.
