Regulations set for implementation from 1 June that bar branding or trademarks on cigarette packaging or wrappers cannot be met because technical data has not been conveyed to manufacturers, the Kenya News Agency reported.
British American Tobacco Managing Director Chris Burrell told journalists in Nairobi no company is capable of meeting the deadline, KNA said. The government should loosen its position on implementation and allow talks on some of the new rules, he reportedly said. Burrell added his company may seek legal redress if flaws in the regulations are not fixed, KNA reported.
The regulations also call for pictorial warnings on the front and back of packs, KNA said.
