Lawmakers in Spain are planning to widen the medical use of cannabis with plans to enable its sale in pharmacies within the next half year, reports Medical Xpress.
A text calling for the medical use of cannabis to be expanded in Spain was approved by the parliament’s health commission. Currently, only two drugs that contain cannabis are allowed to be used to treat medical conditions and may only be administered in hospital. The approved text aims to allow the sale of medical cannabis in pharmacies and also calls for deeper research in the field of medicinal cannabis to be carried out.
According to Medical Xpress, the Spanish medicines agency AEMPS has six months to implement the change. All consumption and sales of cannabis for non-medicinal purposes will still be prohibited in Spain.
