Teenagers in the United Arab Emirates are turning to a potent pipe tobacco containing 44 mg of nicotine per gram dubbed “dizziness” that can cause seizures, Agence France-Presse reported.
A study in the emirate of Ajman showed 36 per cent of schoolchildren surveyed were using what in Arabic is called medwakh, AFP said. Normal use means inhaling six mg of nicotine in 15 to 20 seconds, the news agency said, citing a researcher at the Centre for Advanced Biomedical Research and Innovation at the Gulf Medical University. Medwakh is sold in unlabelled glass bottles in tobacco and grocery shops, AFP said.
