From 20 May 2020, all menthol and capsule cigarettes will be banned from sale in the EU and UK as part of the European Tobacco Products Directive.
The ban is part of the EU Tobacco Product Directive laws which was introduced on 19 May 2014 and became applicable to European countries on 20 May 2016.
The ban covers menthol cigarettes, roll-your-own tobacco, skinny cigarettes, capsule, and click-dual cigarettes, but does not cover heated tobacco products or e-cigarette products. The reason behind the ban is the claim that menthol would encourage more young people to start smoking.
