Tobacco processor and cigarette maker Mighty Corp plans to buy more domestic leaf this year and work with farmers in the growing regions of Northern Luzon to improve quality, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Mighty, which calls itself the oldest cigarette maker in the Philippines, made the commitment in remarks by company official Geoffrey Gadiana to Rep. Eric Singson, president of the Northern Alliance in the House of Representatives, the newspaper said on its website. A quantity was not reported.
Assistance from Mighty would boost the economy of tobacco-producing provinces and improve the lives of 120,000 growers, Singson reportedly said.
