As of 1 January 2009, Delaware, Iowa, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas require stores to sell fire-safe cigarettes only.
The states joined 17 other states that already had implemented fire-safe cigarette laws such as New York, Vermont, California, Oregon, New Hampshire, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Kentucky and Montana.
Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, Washington, Louisiana, Hawaii and Wisconsin have laws that will take effect this year while Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and South Carolina have laws that will take effect in 2010. (pi)
