Three proposals to hike the tax on tobacco heat sticks are before the National Assembly and may result in a substantial increase to achieve parity with combustible cigarettes, the Korea Herald said.
Two of the proposals would increase the KRW 126 (EUR 0.09) tax on a packet of heat sticks to KRW 594, the current national tax on a pack of cigarettes, the newspaper said. An increase could come as early as September, the Herald said. Philip Morris International’s IQOS and British American Tobacco’s Glo heating devices are marketed in Korea.
