Mitch Zeller, newly appointed head of the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Tobacco Products, headlines the list of speakers at the Tobacco Merchants Association (TMA) annual meeting and industry conference in May.

Zeller, who replaced Dr Lawrence Deyton in March, will deliver opening remarks on the second day of the three-day event in Williamsburg, Va, from 15-17 May, according to TMA. Zeller may comment on a proposed regulation on expanding the federal agency’s regulatory scope beyond cigarettes, smokeless tobacco products, cigarette and RYO tobacco. The proposal is expected in April.
A pre-conference workshop on laboratory testing and clinical research on products like e-cigarettes and related topics is planned for the first day. Confirmed event speakers include the director of the CTP Office of Science, David Ashley, and Michael Siegel, a low-risk tobacco product expert and professor at Boston University’s School of Public Health.
