A bill on amendments to the existing laws referring to tobacco and alcohol manufacturing and trade has been submitted by president Yuschenko for parliamentary consideration in view of the country’s preparation to join the World Trade Organisation.
UAH 780 (Euro 120) licence fees are suggested for tobacco making, import and sales, 160 times less than the current rate. At the same time, a notable hike in excise tax rates is envisaged, 4 to 20 per cent for different types of tobacco products. The bill is suggested for urgent consideration in the Verkhovna Rada. (vt)
