Belarus authorities have come up with new rules that ban the use of terms such as “light” or “mild”.
The bill suggested by the State Standards Committee also specifies that health warnings should be rotating and brought from the current 30 per cent to 50 per cent of a pack’s display areas. Tobacco manufacturers will be obliged to place information about product components. The new regulations are planned to be put into effect within the next months.
The bill brings national tobacco regulations in line with requirements by the WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, which Belarus signed in 2004. (vt)
