New Jersey Governor Chris Christie decided not to sign legislation that would have made the state the second one to raise the minimum purchase age for tobacco and vaping products to 21, the Associated Press said.

The bill would have fined retailers for selling to underage clientele, but spared young consumers. Christie did sign into law a measure requiring child-proof containers for e-liquids, the AP said.
In Washington state, Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s office said the chief prosecutor and a bipartisan group of legislators back bills that would raise the tobacco and vaping purchase age to 21.
Hawaii this year became the first state to raise the age to 21. Since Needham, Massachusetts became the first city to raise the purchase age to 21 in 2005, 117 jurisdictions have followed, the AG’s office said in a statement.
