President Barack Obama on 6 July is expected to sign into law a bill that reclassifies stores with roll-your-own machines as manufacturers and substantially hikes the duty on machine-made RYO cigarettes, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Tax on machine-made RYOs would rise to the levels for packaged cigarettes, the newspaper said on its website. RYO products, including cigarettes made by RYO cigarette machines, mostly have been taxed at a far lower rate than packaged cigarettes. The measures are contained within a federal highway bill. (pi)
