More than one in every four adults (27.6 per cent) use at least one tobacco product, according to a survey of nearly 46,000 adults published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
“Non-cigarette tobacco products are evolving rapidly, with increasing popularity in the United States,” according to the federally funded study by institutions including the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in New York. Survey results will serve as baseline data for future research into tobacco use over time. The data were collected for the government's Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) study between September 2013 and December 2014.
