A vote in the Oregon Senate has set the state on the road to becoming the third US state to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products to 21, the Associated Press reported.

Senators voted 19-8 to increase the current minimum age from 18. The bill requires approval of both chambers of the legislature, the AP said. Prohibited sales under SB 754 would include nicotine products like vaping devices and oral tobacco, the AP said.
Hawaii in 2015 was the first US state to raise the tobacco purchasing age to 21, followed a year later by California.
