A group of state attorney generals sent letters to five major retailers asking them to join CVS Caremark in stopping the sale of tobacco products in stores with pharmacies, the New York Times reported.
Rite Aid, Walgreen, Kroger, Safeway and Walmart were sent letters from the group of 28 attorney generals representing states and territories, including New York, Ohio, Puerto Rico and Guam, the newspaper said. CVS, the nation’s largest pharmacy chain in terms of sales, said in February it would pull tobacco products from its pharmacies, an action it estimated would cost about USD 2 billion (EUR 1.4 billion) in annual sales.
