The Egyptian subsidiary of Philip Morris International, Philip Morris Misr, is increasing the prices on all of its heated tobacco products and cigarettes, reports Daily News Egypt.
Cigarette prices have been on the rise in Egypt for a while with the government upping taxes in an effort to curb smoking and now Philip Morris Misr has announced that it too will be increasing its product prices. Merit cigarettes will now cost EGP 85 (USD 2.75) per pack, Marlboro EGP 79 (USD 2.55), Marlboro Crafted EGP 69 (USD 2.23) and L&M will sell for EGP 59 (USD 1.91). HEETS Selections, HEETS Dimensions and TEREA sticks will all retail for EGP 64 (USD 2.07) per pack.
PMI is actively working towards a smoke-free future and transforming its portfolio to include products outside smoke and nicotine. Since 2018, the company has invested USD 12.5 billion to develop and commercialize scientifically substantiated smoke-free products with the goal of ending the sale of cigarettes, reports Daily News Egypt.
“The company is continuously working hard to meet the needs of adult smokers and nicotine users in the Egyptian market and support the transition to a smoke-free future in line with the company’s ambitious strategy,” said Ali N. Karaman, Egypt & Levant Managing Director.
According to the company, the new prices will be clearly displayed on the product packaging via a QR code and retailers and distributors are called upon to adhere to the new prices, reports Daily News Egypt.
