The Health Ministry told Philip Morris International (PMI) the cigarette maker could face penalties for alleged violations of marketing restrictions placed on tobacco products, Reuters reported.

Free promotional distribution of cigarettes, advertising in kiosks and use of video screens to publicise PMI products were among the potential violations cited in a 10 August letter to the company. The allegations came to light in a Reuters investigative report. "You are requested to clarify your position and to show cause why appropriate punitive action be not initiated against the company and its directors," the letter reportedly states. PMI declined comment, Reuters said.
