Philip Morris International Inc. (PMI) is starting to analyse the cannabis industry for its market possibilities, reports Bloomberg.

PMI told Bloomberg that it is looking at it is assessing factors like the toxicity of cannabis, efficacy and differences between pharmaceutical and consumer options. According to the report, the company is still analysing the industry because the market is so young and there isn’t robust regulation yet.
“We are doing all this work and will determine one day what avenues to pursue,” CEO Andre Calantzopoulos was quoted as saying. “But our priority is what we’re doing with our smoke-free products, and that’s where I would stay on cannabis.”
Meanwhile, other tobacco companies such as Altria Group Inc. and British American Tobacco Plc have taken stakes in marijuana companies.
