President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov has approved a five-year programme to push forward his previously stated goal of making the country tobacco-free by 2025, the Associated Press said.
Details of the plan were not revealed in an account of the signing ceremony published in the state newspaper Neitralny Turkmenistan, according to the AP. Several years ago Berdymukhamedov banned the sale of cigarettes every year in the month of April, giving rise to speculation the new plan could ban tobacco outright.
