A Canadian health critic on Tuesday announced her introduction of a bill that would tighten the rules around the sale of flavoured little cigars and smokeless tobacco, reports CBC.
Megan Leslie, member of parliament for the New Democratic Party (NDP), introduced private member's bill C-631 which would ban all types of flavoured small cigars, cigarillos and smokeless tobacco products.
A previous bill (Bill C-32), which banned the sale of flavoured small cigars, came into force in July 2011, but products such as cigars without filters can still be sold. Leslie said she wants to close that "loophole".
The new bill passed a first reading in the House of Commons on 7 March. (pi)
