The government is seeking public input on the successor to the Federal Tobacco Control Strategy (FTCS), including what to do about e-cigarette and marijuana use, Health Canada said.
Raising the minimum age to 21 for purchase of tobacco products and government support of research into the “relative harms” of new tobacco products are two areas in which the government said it was seeking guidance. The current FTCS expires in March, 2018. Canada intends to reduce tobacco use to below 5 per cent of the adult population by 2035. The Health Canada consultation closes on 13 April.
