Punjab reversed itself and restored the ban on making gutkha and pan masala only one day after the state rescinded its production ban, the Tribune News Service reported.
Initially The Tribune had reported reinstating production of chewing tobaccos was done to help the local industry. However a government statement cited in the News Service story said the manufacturing ban had been reinstated “with immediate effect.” One dozen Indian states have banned gutkha sales and production.
