Cigarette advertisements are being taken down in Indonesia’s capital after a new regulation was signed by the Jakarta Governor, reports The Jakarta Post.
Anies Baswedan, the Governor of Jakarta, called on building managers to cease displaying cigarette advertisements and products in their establishments, reports The Jakarta Post. Since the ruling on 13 September, officers from the Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) have conducted unannounced inspections in a number of minimarkets and shopping centres to make sure the new regulation was being followed. Budhy Novian, the Head of East Jakarta Satpol PP said that during the two-week inspection period all sub-districts in East Jakarta would be combed. So far, 22 cigarette billboards have been removed from public displays.
